Professor Anne Kovalainen

Anne Kovalainen is Professor of Entrepreneurship at University of Turku, Chair of Centre for Labor Studies at Turku School of Economics. She is Board Member of Strategic Research Council of Finland.

Before joining the University of Turku and Turku School of Economics, Anne has worked as professor of sociology and gender studies in two Swedish speaking universities in Finland and as visiting fellow at LSE. She has also worked as visiting fellow at Harvard University, Stanford University and University of Massachusetts, among others. She has promoted intellectual culture by serving as board member in several public research and knowledge institutions such as NORFACE, Research Council for Culture and Society, Finnish Innovation Fund, University of Turku and Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters.

Anne Kovalainen publishes in the areas of economic sociology, gender studies, qualitative research methodology and sociology of work, and her current research addresses, among other things, contemporary manifestations of markets and platforms. She is member of The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters, and The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.

At Clare Hall, Anne is accompanied by her spouse Seppo Poutanen, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Turku. Seppo is also visiting fellow at Clare Hall. Seppo is sociologist and leading expert on digital platformisation and new forms of work. During her stay at Clare Hall, Anne will work with Seppo on their forthcoming co-authored book.
