Clare Hall Colloquium

Professor Stephen Eales

The Herschel Space Observatory

The Herschel Space Observatory, which was launched into space in 2009, observed the Universe in submillimetre light rather than the optical light of traditional telescopes such as the Hubble Space Telescope. Herschel was also much bigger than Hubble. Professor Eales will describe how Herschel gave us a radically different view of the Universe, transforming our understanding of the 'Origin Questions' - how stars and galaxies were formed.
