Formal Hall

Clare Hall will host a pair of Formal Halls on Wednesday 9 June and Thursday 10 June.

To allow as many people as possible the chance to attend a Formal Hall in this week, while minimising Covid transmission between groups, each event has a different demographic focus:

  • The Wednesday event is primarily for Fellows, Visiting Fellows, Life Members, and staff
  • The Thursday event is primarily for students

To increase the chance of College members attending a College event (especially those students for whom this may be the only chance of experiencing a Formal Hall), both events are strictly limited to Clare Hall members, with provision for up to one guest from within a household or social bubble. Non-Clare Hall students, friends or partners from separate external households should not be invited until further review (w/c 14 June).

Booking information (how to set up a UPay Account, and how to register for events) may be found below. Please note, all attendees must be listed by name, to ensure invoicing and Covid-tracking records are accurate. For those unfamiliar with College Formal Halls, the Dress Code is below:

Dining Hall Dress Code: In keeping with the general ethos of the College, informal dress is acceptable for all meals except Formal Halls, where jacket and tie are the guideline standard for gentlemen, and Feasts, where dinner suits are welcomed but are not essential. Appropriate attire for ladies is at their discretion. Gowns are rarely worn in College, except at Graduation Dinners.
