GSB President 2021/22 elected

Srijit Seal has been elected President of Clare Hall’s Graduate Student Body (GSB) for the academic year 2021/22.

Currently pursuing a PhD in Chemistry, Srijit is developing novel machine learning methods in drug discovery. He has previously served as Green Officer for the GSB, and also works in outreach programmes with St Stephens College, the University of Delhi, encouraging students to conduct internships and postgraduate studies at Cambridge and Oxford.

Congratulations to Dr Sohini Kar-Narayan, an Official Fellow of Clare Hall from the Department of Materials Science, University of Cambridge, who has been named a WES Top 50 Women in Engineering 2021.

Founded by the Women's Engineering Society in 2016, the WE50 awards are linked to International Women in Engineering Day – the celebration of women in engineering that takes place on 23 June each year.

In light of the world health situation we're all still grappling with, the Cambridge University Combined Boat Clubs have understandably cancelled ‘May’ Bumps for 2021.

Although some substitute races have been organised by the CUCBC to slake that thirst, the College understands that many members will be disappointed that we can’t line the riverbank and cheer on the CHBC during ‘May’ Bumps season this year.

Research Fellow named UK Dementia Research Institute Emerging Leader 2021

Dr Julie Qiaojin Lin, a Research Fellow of Clare Hall, has been recognised as an Emerging Leader in dementia research by the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI).

Life Member wins Henrik Schück Prize from Swedish Academy

Carina Burman, a Life Member of Clare Hall, has been awarded the Henrik Schück Prize for her work in literary history.

She shares:

College takes bookings for a pair of Formal Hall dinners

Clare Hall will host a pair of Formal Halls on Wednesday 9 June and Thursday 10 June.

Booking opened for both events at 2pm today (28 May) and the Thursday 10 June event (primarily for students) is now fully booked. Further details on future Formal Halls for students will follow in the coming days.

For each evening, spaces are limited to 48 diners, with sign-up closing a day in advance (at 12.00 midday).
