Dr Iain Black to step down from role as Senior Tutor at Clare Hall

Clare Hall announces that Dr Iain Black, Senior Tutor, will be stepping down from this role on 31st January 2021, after more than eight years leading the Tutorial team.

During his term, Iain has led a strong Tutorial team, overseeing a number of successful initiatives for the support of our students, and building very strong foundations in the Tutorial Office.

Iain comments:
'I have greatly enjoyed my role over the past eight-and-a-half years, and can take pleasure in the fact that the Tutorial Office has been substantially expanded and reformed during this time. Increasing the number of tutors, establishing initiatives like the Fellow-Student Dinners and overseeing the widening offer of bursaries, awards and responsive-mode research funding are just some of the many improvements of which I am proud. In my view students at Clare Hall have one of the best – if not the best – experiences of all graduate students in Cambridge.’

Alan Short, President says:
‘Iain has been a fantastic Senior Tutor, very much liked and respected by not just the students and the Tutorial team, but also by all Fellows, staff, alumni and Life Members. We are all extremely grateful for the hard work and commitment which he has brought to the role of Senior Tutor. I would like to thank Iain, on behalf of all members of the College, for his service, and we wish him the very best in the future.’

Interim arrangements to cover Senior Tutor responsibilities:
Until a replacement for Iain is appointed, the responsibilities of the Senior Tutor are being shared between the Assistant Senior Tutor and the Senior Management Team. Students should, in the first instance, contact their own Tutor. Any other student and tutorial matters should be addressed to either senior.tutor@clarehall.cam.ac.uk or to tutorial.office@clarehall.cam.ac.uk
