Per Reiff-Musgrove to join Clare Hall as Bursar

Clare Hall is delighted to announce the appointment of its new Bursar, Per Reiff-Musgrove, who will begin in post on 20 October 2022.  

Per joins us from the Eastern Academic Health Science Network, where he is currently Director of Finance, following a varied career including several years as Head of UK Pensions at Shell, managing pension funds with a total of 50,000 members.

Over 80 guests enjoy Donors’ Garden Party

We were thrilled to host this summer’s Donors’ Garden Party on Saturday 16 July, welcoming more than 80 guests back to Clare Hall for the afternoon.

A Mediterranean lunch menu served in a marquee in the Fellows’ Garden fitted the midsummer occasion perfectly, and the conversation flowed freely as friends and supporters of the College enjoyed the opportunity to meet again in person following the hiatus of the pandemic.

College to present Open Cambridge event featuring three Fellows

Clare Hall is planning an Open Cambridge event around the theme 'Wondrous Innovation', which will take place on the afternoon of 13 September this year.

Three members of Clare Hall's Fellowship will share insights into their research and teaching methods, spanning human brain development in cerebral organoids; energy harvesting and sensing; and theoretical particle physics. New technologies and approaches will be showcased, and there will be time for a Q&A.

Fellow becomes member of European Molecular Biology Organisation

Dr Madeline Lancaster, a Fellow of Clare Hall, has been named a new member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO) - a community of almost 2,000 leading life scientists in Europe and beyond.

A group leader in the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Dr Lancaster's work has led to unprecedented insights into the development of the human brain. Clare Hall welcomed senior members of the Ministry of Education for the Basque Government to the College last week.

Congratulations to Professor Sohini Kar-Narayan, a Fellow of Clare Hall, whose laboratory's microfluidic force sensors have won the Armourers and Brasiers' Venture Prize 2022.

Michael H. Black

Clare Hall is very sad to announce the death of Michael H. Black, an Emeritus Fellow of the College, aged 94.

Michael was a British author and held the position of University Publisher at Cambridge University Press. He was awarded a minor scholarship to Jesus College, Cambridge, and graduated with a first in Modern Languages and English in 1951.

After military service in Austria, Michael was appointed Assistant Secretary at Cambridge University Press in September 1951. From 1965 until 1978 he held the role of Chief Editor, and from that time until his retirement in 1987, he...
