The second 'Clare Hall Inspires' personal and professional development workshop for students and postdocs was co-organised by Dr Keri Wong (Clare Hall Postdoc Committee), Mr Tim Coorens (the GSB) and Ms Catherine Wise from the Development Office. This one-day workshop, open to all College members, was held in the Richard Eden Suite at West Court. The key aim of the workshop is to encourage students and postdocs to think flexibly about various career paths and to utilise the many benefits of their Clare Hall membership.
Our programme this year was even better than last year. Our speakers were Ms Frances Meegan from the Careers Service, Dr Anna Cieslik from Cambridge School Research Facilitators, Dr Kiyoko Gotanda and Dr Gabriel Byng - past and present recipients of prestigious research Fellowships, Dr Lucy Rhymer and Dr Jessica McHugh - publishers from the Cambridge University Press and Nature Reviews respectively, and entrepreneurs and Cambridge Enterprise team members Dr Tony Hooley and Mr James Thomas. All our speakers came to share their career journey and to give tips for their respective industry. The much-anticipated highlight of the day was our ‘speed mentoring’ session. Clare Hall is lucky in that we were joined by many enthusiastic senior members of the College - Visiting Fellows, Life Members and Fellows who were extremely keen to be mentors for our attendees and to share their academic and industry experiences.
Overall, the positive feedback from both the mentors and students reflected a truly inspiring day in the lovely grounds of West Court. The organisers would like to thank all speakers and attendees who made the event such a huge success.
