Professor C. Alan Short Elected as President

Clare Hall is delighted to announce the election of Professor C. Alan Short, MA PhD (Cantab) Dipl'Arch. as the ninth President of Clare Hall who will take up his post from 1 August 2020.  He will succeed Professor David Ibbetson FBA, Regius Professor of Civil Law at the University who will be retiring after seven hugely successful years as President.

The Clare Hall-Zhejiang University Academic Summer Programme 2019: Immersion in Cambridge research

For ten days over the summer, Clare Hall welcomed twenty of the top-performing PhD students from Zhejiang University, one of the top five universities in China. The students joined a highly experimental and ambitious new programme - a tour of research facilities across almost the whole University from pure Physics to the most visual of all the Arts and Humanities. Global Sustainability Film Awards 2019

Congratulations to our Vice President and Professorial Fellow Alan Short who has won a 2019 Global Sustainability Film Award for AI and Digital Innovation with A Low Carbon Future for China’s Furnace Cities. The award was presented by the Chair of the China International Culture Stock Exchange, Grace Bian. The film investigates the opportunities for low carbon heating and cooling and looks at the Chinese government’s efforts to adapt building stock to reduce carbon emissions significantly. Clare Hall Fellow Appointed as Pro-Proctor

On the nomination of Clare Hall, Dr Annamaria Motrescu-Mayes has been appointed a Pro-Proctor for the academic year 2019–20.  Annamaria is the 14th woman to serve as a Proctor at the University of Cambridge, a post that has been traditionally held by men until 1979. She will then continue to serve as a Proctor 2020 - 2021 and as Deputy Proctor 2021 - 2022.

CUDC-Maxer Student Summer Programme

At the beginning of August, Clare Hall welcomed the latest student summer programme from the China UK Development Centre-Maxer Education Group. The students were from Xiamen University, Soochow University, Xi’an Jiao Tong University and Fuzhou University.
