Friday Family Suppers - Ed Williams

On Friday 3 March Ed Williams, head coach at Elite Swimming Academy, came to our family supper to speak about his swimming adventures. He is one of the only people in the world to have swum solo across the English Channel, Gibraltar Strait and most recently the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland. Ed talked about resilience, perseverance and goal setting which was well received by the children and adults alike. 'Clare Hall inspires' postdoc event

‘Clare Hall inspires’ was held on Thursday, 9 March in the Richard Eden Suite at West Court. This one day personal and professional development workshop was developed by the College postdoc representatives for the entire College community as a way of exploring the many benefits of a College affiliation. Attendees were invited to think through the ways their College connection might benefit them both personally and professionally.

A new book by Clare Hall Professorial Fellow, Alan Short entitled 'The Recovery of Natural Environments in Architecture: Air, Comfort and Climate' is out now.  Published by Routledge, the book is a culmination of 30 years’ research and award-winning green building design by Short and colleagues in Architecture, Engineering, Applied Maths and Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge.

CUDC & Maxer Winter School at Clare Hall

Over the last two weeks Clare Hall has hosted a group of students from Wuhan University as they took part in the China UK Development Centre and Maxer Education Institute seminar programme in Cambridge.

The course is designed to offer the opportunity of customised professional courses for students who expect to develop in the fields of social science, humanities, natural science or engineering. The programme is planned to organise outstanding students from outside the UK to come to Cambridge for professional academic and language courses.

Dame Gillian Beer book launch

On Monday 30 January Clare Hall hosted a Drinks Reception for Dame Gillian Beer to coincide with the publication of her new book 'Alice in Space - The Sideways Victorian World of Lewis Carroll'. Over 50 friends and colleagues came together to listen to Gillian read from Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky poem and to hear about the years of work and research that have gone into her new book.

The first edition of the ‘Cambridge Trust - Clare Hall Talks’ took place this week. The series aims to promote the research projects undertaken by Cambridge Trust scholars based at Clare Hall. The event included presentations by Brynja Thorgeirsdottir, Elias Nosrati, Heidi Mogstad and M. Wesam Al-Asali and they were joined by Mrs Helen Pennant, Director of Cambridge Trust.

Robert Anderson appointed President and CEO of Chemical Heritage Foundation

Clare Hall Fellow and former Director of the British Museum Robert Anderson, has been selected as the President and CEO of Chemical Heritage Foundation. He has been interim President since 28 July, 2016, stepping into the role from his position as Vice Chair of CHF’s Board of Directors.
