Gillian Beer wins Truman Capote Prize

Former Clare Hall President Dame Gillian Beer has been awarded the prestigious Truman Capote Prize for her recent book on the Alice novels, Alice in Space. All members of the college community send their warmest congratulations to her.

Professor David L Callies honoured by the William and Mary Law School

The William & Mary Law School Property Rights Project will honour Clare Hall Life Member Professor David L. Callies in October, with the 2017 Brigham-Kanner Property Rights Prize. The prize is named in honour of the lifetime contributions to property rights of Toby Prince Brigham and Gideon Kanner and is presented annually to a scholar, practitioner or jurist whose work affirms the fundamental importance of property rights.

Rethinking Cognitive Enhancement

Ahmed Dahir Mohamed, Clare Hall Life Member, has written a new Oxford University Press Handbook entitled Rethinking Cognitive Enhancement.  Ahmed, in collaboration with Wayne Hall and Ruud Ter Meulen, tackles the issues of the use of pharmacological drugs for cognitive enhancement.

Friday Family Suppers - Ed Williams

On Friday 3 March Ed Williams, head coach at Elite Swimming Academy, came to our family supper to speak about his swimming adventures. He is one of the only people in the world to have swum solo across the English Channel, Gibraltar Strait and most recently the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland. Ed talked about resilience, perseverance and goal setting which was well received by the children and adults alike. ‘Clare Hall inspires’ was held on Thursday, 9 March in the Richard Eden Suite at West Court. This one day personal and professional development workshop was developed by the College postdoc representatives for the entire College community as a way of exploring the many benefits of a College affiliation. CUDC & Maxer Winter School at Clare Hall

Over the last two weeks Clare Hall has hosted a group of students from Wuhan University as they took part in the China UK Development Centre and Maxer Education Institute seminar programme in Cambridge.

The course is designed to offer the opportunity of customised professional courses for students who expect to develop in the fields of social science, humanities, natural science or engineering.
