On Friday, 16 March 2018 Clare Hall was delighted to host a lecture and dinner to welcome visitors from St Cross College. St Cross is our sister college in Oxford and this event was the first in what we hope will become an established tradition of exchange. The evening began with an engaging and beautifully illustrated talk by Professor Alan Short entitled The Recovery of Natural Environments in Architecture. Truly inter-disciplinary and ranging across both past and present concerns with the ecology of building, Professor Short challenged us all to think deeply and critically about the future of architectural design in an age of climate change and resource depletion. Lively questions and discussion continued after the talk and into the drinks reception, which was followed by a splendid dinner. Many informal contacts were made between Fellows from both colleges and we look forward to making the trip to Oxford next year. I would particularly like to thank Dr Jo Ashbourn, my opposite number as Senior Tutor at St Cross, for all her enthusiasm and hard work in helping to get this new tradition started.
