Juha Lunkka is Professor of Quaternary Geology at the University of Oulu, Finland and Adjunct Professor of Geology and Palaeontology at the University of Helsinki, Finland. Professor Lunkka obtained his MSc at the University of Helsinki and his PhD at the University of Cambridge (Sidney Sussex College). He was the head of the Geoscience Department at Oulu University between 2010-2014 and the Dean of the Oulu Mining School between 2014-2018.
His research is focused on sedimentological, palaeoenvironmental and climate studies of terrestrial and marine sediment sequences. Professor Lunkka has participated in several palaeontological and environmental research projects in Turkey, China and the Eurasian Arctic. Professor Lunkka’s recent studies have focused on the reconstruction of ancient ice sheet dynamics using remote sensing techniques.
