Jonathan Lavery has been on faculty at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada since 2003. His research interests are in ancient philosophy (esp. Plato), argumentation, and genres of philosophical writing. He is the principal editor of Ideas Under Fire: studies of philosophy and science in adversity (Fairleigh-Dickinson University Press, 2013 [2017]), Literary Form, Philosophical Content (Fairleigh-Dickinson University Press, 2010), and a special double issue on genres of philosophy for the journal Poetics Today, Vol 28 (no. 2 and 3, 2007). He has also published an ethics anthology, Life Examined (Broadview Press, 2019), and a textbook, Critical Thinking (Broadview Press, multiple editions).

Jonathan has also been a Visiting Fellow at the Northrop Frye Centre (Victoria College, Toronto; 1999-2000), as well as a graduate student fellow at the American School for Classical Studies in Athens (1995) and the Canadian Institute in Greece (1995). While at Clare Hall, Jonathan will be working on papers related to Socrates and Plato.
