Location: Clare Hall Dining Hall, Herschel Road, Cambridge CB3 9AL

This concert brings together a compelling programme of works written for tenor and horn, performed by Alessandro Cortello (tenor), Alexei Watkins (horn), Eleanor Ryan (violin), Patrick Hemmerlé (piano), and Darren Bloom (conductor).

The evening opens with Beethoven’s An die Ferne Geliebte, the first song cycle in the history of Western music. The programme continues with Brahms’s Horn Trio, composed shortly after the death of the composer’s mother and noted for its reflective and elegiac character. The concert concludes with Benjamin Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, a haunting and atmospheric setting of texts by six English poets and one of Britten’s most celebrated works.
