The Porters are the first contact for information about the College, including details of the mail, keys and cards, and College facilities. The Porters are responsible for college security, the car park and vehicle and bicycle registration. The Porters’ Lodge is staffed 24 hours every day.

Here are some useful forms that might help you during your stay at the College: Maintenance Request Form, Bicycle Registration Form and the PARQ Questionnaire to be completed for the Gym and Pool Membership Application.

Parking: Clare Hall’s underground car park, is for College use/staff only and is not to be used. Adjacent to the car park, at road level on Herschel Road, are two accessible bays, available for visitors by prior arrangement. Please email or call the Porters’ Lodge for details. The College has one more accessible bay at West Court, outside Gillian Beer House, along with a limited number of spaces in and around accommodation blocks. There is unrestricted road parking, on some nearby roads.

Electric vehicles: Clare Hall has two 22kWh electric vehicle charging points, one of which is reserved for College vehicles. Arrangements for use of the second charging point is on a case-by-case basis; please email domestic.bursar@clarehall.cam.ac.uk to discuss your requirements.

Smoking: Clare Hall is a smoke-free environment both in our buildings and across the estate.

Porters’ Lodge

The main route to the Porters’ Lodge from Herschel Road is via two short flights of roughly standard height steps. There is a handrail on each side of the steps, though both may not be within reach at once. Step-free and wheelchair access to the Porters’ Lodge is via a secondary route: enter the College via the path next to the Blue Badge parking on Herschel Road and take an immediate left, then follow the path to the left to reach the Porters’ Lodge

Toilets: A gender-neutral wheelchair accessible toilet can be reached from the Porters’ Lodge via one short flight of standard height steps with a handrail on each side or via lift. The other toilets in this building are not gender-neutral or wheelchair accessible but can be accessed from the Porters’ Lodge via one short flight of standard height steps with a handrail on each side or via a lift.

Seating: The lounge/common room (accessible via one short flight of standard height steps with a handrail on each side or via a lift from the Porters’ Lodge) in the main building offers both padded and basic seating. The Dining Hall (accessible via two short flights of standard height steps with handrails on each side or via a lift from the Porters’ Lodge) offers basic seating.
