Casual shifts

Clare Hall is seeking to appoint Relief Porters to work in the Porters’ Lodge, supporting the Head Porter in delivering efficient reception services and support to students, staff, Fellows, and visitors. This is a dynamic role that plays a key part in all aspects of College life.

The Porters’ Lodge, located at the heart of the College, operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It serves as the main reception for the College, so it is essential that Porters are polite, helpful, and welcoming to everyone, whether external visitors, students, staff, or Fellows. The Porters’ Lodge plays a vital role in supporting students throughout their studies and contributing to the wider College community.

Applicants will ideally have customer service experience, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate courteously and professionally. Remaining calm under pressure, being a strong problem solver, and having good IT literacy are key attributes for the role.

This casual position involves covering absences of College Porters, with shifts offered both day and night. There are no set hours, and there is no obligation on the College to offer work or the post holder to accept it. The rate of pay is £12.43 per hour, and benefits, whilst on duty, include meals, training, uniform provision and onsite parking. Paid annual leave will accrue at a rate of 12.07% for each hour worked.

To apply please email your CV, stating why you consider you are suitable for the role, to hr@clarehall.cam.ac.uk.

Closing date: 12.00 noon on Monday 21st October 2024.
