Being part of Clare Hall’s community presents a wonderful opportunity to socialise, develop new skills and explore extracurricular activities – whether by joining one of our clubs and societies, or by attending events.

Music:

Concerts

Learn about Clare Hall’s highly regarded music programme, including the Intimate Engagements series.

Clare Hall’s quartet-in-residence, the Fitzwilliam String Quartet, delight us with concerts throughout the year.

Choir

Members are warmly invited to be part of our relaxed, enjoyable and accessible choir.

Art:

Exhibitions and art collection

Our Art Committee presents a range of exhibitions and talks throughout the year. Members can also loan artworks from the College’s eclectic collection.

Art is an enriching aspect of college life.

Ceramics

Explore the Bell Collection of British Studio Pottery, 1920-1980, which is available to enjoy year-round in the College’s Main Site, with a rotating display drawing from some 320 pots.


Student-led activities and sports:

The Graduate Student Body Committee plans an extensive range of social events year-round, which complement the student bar‘s range of cocktail nights and family evenings.

The ALB bar is fully student-run and offers a great variety of beers, spirits, wines, and soft drinks.

Allotment

Clare Hall’s allotment is free for members and their families to join.

What better way to unwind than by growing delicious vegetables?

Boat Club

Clare Hall Boat Club (CHBC) competes in both collegiate and town competitions.

Football, Badminton, and Rugby

Why not try the Clare x Clare Hall joint football team, or join your fellow college members for a session of badminton? Contact GSB Sports Officer Martin Baur for more information.

If you’re interested in trying out rugby, consider joining the All Greys, a rugby team made of players from the University of Cambridge’s mature and graduate colleges.

Cricket Club

A sociable sporting club which is open to all who work and study at Clare Hall.

Golf

Clare Hall Golf Society is open to all college members including staff, students and visitors and offers a sociable group for golfers of all levels of experience to play together at a number of local courses.


Punting

The College has a punt called the John Benstead, which members can book. Please see the Intranet for details.

Swimming pool and gym

Enjoy our indoor heated swimming pool and gym.

College members can reserve a pool slot via Booker.

Mindfulness

Enjoy a meditation drop-in each Tuesday from 1pm in the King Room, led by Emeritus Fellow Elizabeth Garnsey.

Mindfulness has an immediate and lasting ripple effect.

Board Games Club

The Clare Hall Board Games Club hosts games nights twice a week – currently on Sundays and Mondays in the Common Room from 7pm. All College members are welcome.

Croquet

Make the most of a summer’s day and enjoy a game of croquet on one of our lawns. There are two croquet sets stored in the basement of Gillian Beer House which are available for members to use.


Plus

Find a range of social events such as Jazz Formals, Formal Swaps, ceilidhs and feasts via our events calendar year-round. There is also a barbecue in West Court which our members are very welcome to book for social events.

Clare Hall’s annual lectures, colloquia and special interest groups present opportunities to interact – as does being part of the Graduate Student Body Committee.
