The paper is a result of Ange’s PhD dissertation on Beauty, politicization, and racism in the Colombian Insular Caribbean. It was published in the first issue of Trans Studies at the CEDREF under the supervision of Pedro Mendes Loureiro and R. Sánchez-Rivera.

I thank Miss Nancy Land Organization for Afro-Caribbean Women and Young Islanders for their community work in the Colombian Insular Caribbean. I dedicate the prize to all transgender women collaborating with me during this long ethnographic beauty pageant journey!
