Affiliated Postdoctoral Membership

With over one hundred Postdocs (and growing), Clare Hall has one of the largest and most active Postdoc communities in Cambridge. Inspired by the model of an institute of advanced study, Clare Hall values the contributions of its diverse and international cohort of early career researchers and has made great strides in building and supporting this community in recent years.

The College runs two parallel schemes for Postdoctoral researchers: 1) Non-stipendiary Research Fellowships 2) Postdoctoral Affiliated Members.

Once affiliated, a Clare Hall Postdoc will be encouraged to get involved in all aspects of college life. Past successful events have included a ‘study break’ hosted by postdocs for postgraduate students, a careers workshop for postdoc women in the sciences, and an artist’s talk on the theme of postdocs, in addition to a weekly writing group, weekly lunches, termly Formal Halls, seminars, sports outings and weekend brunches.

Applications

We are currently offering Affiliated Postdoctoral Membership of Clare Hall with the goal of allowing researchers to participate more fully in the academic life of the University.

Postdoctoral members are affiliated with their faculty or department and are not automatically members of a college. Clare Hall is unique in its commitment to integrating academic visitors into its intellectual and social fabric and in offering an environment in which research scholars from different academic disciplines and nationalities are brought together.  Postdoctoral membership will be granted for one year in the first instance and is renewable at the discretion of the Governing Body.

Affiliated postdoctoral members of the College will have the same access to facilities as other members.  They will become affiliated postdoctoral members of Clare Hall and be issued with a University card and will be able to participate fully in the academic and social life of the College.  There will be a small charge of £175 per annum to cover administrative costs.  Meals, drinks, use of sporting facilities, etc. will be charged at the same rate as other non-student members.  Clare Hall also welcomes partners and families to participate in College activities.

Applicants should submit a CV, details of your research achievements, details of current research and a letter from a Senior Academic or HR in your department/institute confirming that you have at least 12 months on your contract

Please make your application for our Postdoctoral Affiliation Scheme using the online system FAS.
