Dr Anthony Harris keynotes on ‘Entrepreneurship in the Ox-Cam corridor’ at the British Consul General’s residence in Boston
On 5th May, Clare Hall Fellow Dr Anthony Harris was invited to give a ‘fireside chat’ to a joint meeting of CAMENTREPRENEURS and Oxford Entrepreneurs, which was held at the British Consul General’s residence in Boston, Massachusetts. The event brought together around 50 Oxford and Cambridge alumni who have taken on roles as venture capitalists, angel investors, entrepreneurs and M&A lawyers.

In a lively Q&A session, moderated by the Deputy British Consul General, Dr Harris explained the Oxford and Cambridge early-stage investment space and described his own personal journey as a founder of a software company, and investor in early-stage start-ups. He provided key investment insights as well as humorous anecdotes from his time as an investor. The event was sponsored by TCF Law, a boutique mergers and acquisitions law firm that specialises in US acquisitions of UK companies, and would be glad to hear from any Clare Hall students, fellows, or alumni who are running UK companies.

Dr Harris will be known to members of Clare Hall as a research fellow, chair of the IT committee, graduate tutor, and wine steward. He frequently supports Clare Hall Boat Club by cycling along the towpath and coaching the crews for bumps. He is also a Director of Studies for Computer Science at Emmanuel College and supervises for the Department of Computer Science as well as for Selwyn, Clare, and Emmanuel.
Dr Harris has two strands of research; one looks at early mathematics and astronomy between the third and eleventh centuries, and the other is the use of generative AI for teaching and researching in the humanities. He has been absent from Clare Hall in Lent term while progressing a Fulbright scholarship at Harvard University, and returns to College this Full Easter term. As well as being a serious academic and teacher in higher education, Dr Harris is also a serial entrepreneur. For the past twenty years, he has been an active angel investor and VC co-investor. He is on the board of Cambridge Angels and has invested in over 50 companies in both the Oxford and Cambridge ecosystems.
