Fitzwilliam String Quartet: Beethoven, Bray, Shostakovich
The Fitzwilliam String Quartet open their three-concert series at Clare Hall with a programme that spans centuries of musical expression.
The evening begins with Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18 No. 1, a work of youthful brilliance whose moving Adagio was inspired by the tragic love of Romeo and Juliet. This is followed by Charlotte Bray’s ‘Ungrievable Lives’ (2022), a deeply poignant reflection on the global refugee crisis, before concluding with Shostakovich’s Third Quartet, a monumental work shaped by the aftermath of the Second World War.
Join us for an unforgettable evening of music that explores human emotion, resilience, and connection across time.
