Brazilian Piano Music in the Twentieth Century
Performed by acclaimed pianist and Clare Hall Musician-in-Residence Patrick Hemmerlé, this concert explores the work of two of Brazil’s most significant twentieth-century composers: Camargo Guarnieri and Heitor Villa-Lobos.
Through a programme of vivid, expressive and rhythmically rich piano music, the recital highlights how both composers helped place Brazil firmly on the map of modern music. Exceptionally prolific and deeply individual, Guarnieri and Villa-Lobos drew on European musical traditions while developing a distinctive voice rooted in Brazilian national identity, colour and character.

Guarnieri – Sonatines, Improvisos, Danzas
Villa-Lobos – Choros V, Saudades, A Tres Marias, Rudepoema
