Working with Cambridge historian Professor Rory Naismith, Professor Tinti has been studying Anglo-Saxon coins discovered during excavations near the Vatican. The findings offer new insight into the Schola Saxonum, the English quarter of medieval Rome, and into the experiences of Anglo-Saxons who travelled to and lived in the city.

The research reveals more about the close connections between Anglo-Saxon England and Rome, including the movement of people, money and ideas across medieval Europe.

The University of Cambridge has explored the discoveries in a new feature, “When in Rome”, which looks in greater detail at the archaeological evidence and what it can tell us about this remarkable community.
