Alex studies collective decision-making, argumentation and foresight. He worked on developing structured expert elicitation techniques for predicting the reliability of research in the social & behavioural sciences
Alex is a Research Associate in AI Risk and Foresight in the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk and a member of the AI:FAR research project. He is also Principal Investigator of the “Measuring the Quality of Collective Reasoning” project (British Academy/Leverhulme Trust) and a member of the History Philosophy Culture Working Group of the next generation Event Horizon Telescope collaboration where he leads the Expert Forecasting task force.
Alex studies collective decision-making, argumentation and foresight. He is interested in understanding the long-term impacts of AI on social and democratic processes and developing interventions that can shape these impacts and mitigate extreme risks. He worked on developing structured expert elicitation techniques for predicting the reliability of research in the social & behavioural sciences (the repliCATS project) and decision-support tools for measuring and improving the quality of argumentation in intelligence reports (the SWARM project).
