Julia Hedgecoe Dawson

Julia is a professional photographer, attended The Guildford School of Photography whose teaching was based on The Bauhaus tradition.

Her career began in Fleet Street working as a picture researcher on The Observer, then as a freelance photographer for The Telegraph and various other newspapers and magazines; some advertising, and work with musicians including at Snape Maltings.

Living in Cambridge since 1991, Julia has concentrated on portraiture across both the City and the University of Cambridge; Newnham College have the greater collection and many individual portraits exist on walls across the University of Cambridge Colleges. Julia has had a large number of exhibitions in the British Isles including at The National Portrait Gallery 1998, and Clare Hall 2009. A number of her portraits are in The National Portrait Gallery Library, London.
