Dr Souvik Sarkar
Dr. Souvik Sarkar is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie/UKRI Fellow in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge.
As a researcher specializing in organic and supramolecular polymer chemistry, he focuses on the design and construction of molecules and assembled materials, and finally evaluate them for potential applications across the energy sector—such as solar cells, lithography and biological fields—including adhesives and drug delivery systems.
He completed his Ph.D. at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in India. His doctoral research made significant contributions by providing mechanistic insights into self-assembly processes, with a particular focus on stereoselective primary and secondary nucleation, programmability in assembly procesess, and advancements in the control of structure, sequence, and topology in polymer systems. After completing his Ph.D., he joined Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), USA for postdoctoral research, where he worked on atomically precise extreme ultraviolet (EUV) nanopatterning of organic-inorganic hybrid materials.
Beyond his academic work, he has been actively involved in public engagement initiatives, aiming to inspire students and young researchers about the potential of science and innovation. Outside of the lab, he enjoys photography, watching movies, and listening to music.
