Dr Valeria Ramirez

Valeria is a Research Associate at the Policy Evidence Unit for University Commercialisation and Innovation (UCI).

Her research lies at the intersection of innovations and society, examining how communities of practice create, use, adopt and adapt new technologies. She specialises in digital performance metrics, evaluation, and quantification.

Her doctoral research explored the measurement practices among communication professionals. Through the prism of science and technology studies, she showed the concerns driven by the availability of scoring and tracking devices, described how to balance personal savoir-faire and objectivity and identified the strategies to define impact metrics. She is currently working in the future of university Knowledge Exchange (KE) data, metrics and performance measurement at UCI.

Prior to joining the UCI, Valeria was part of the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Sciences Innovations Sociétés in Paris; senior lecturer of Digital Cultures at SciencePo, and course leader at UGE.

Drawing from over 15 years of consulting experience across Mexico, Spain, and France, Dr. Ramirez has provided communication strategy and crisis management expertise to diverse sectors including finance, law, and pharmaceuticals. She has also lent her insights to international organisations, research institutions and spin-offs including the French Ministry of Education and Research, FAO, IGN, Ynsect and Afyren. Furthermore, her commitment to bridging research with real-world impact is evidenced by her involvement in initiatives like the French Agency for Ecological Transition’s implementation of KPIs and evaluation frameworks, and the design of innovative training methodologies to develop impactful research projects for the ESCR SCDTP.

Valeria holds a PhD in Sociology and a MSc in Information and Communication Technologies from the UGE, in France; a MSc in Economics from the University Complutense and a MSc in Journalism from the European University of Madrid, in Spain, and a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences, from the Universidad del Valle de Mexico.
