12,000 Steps Challenge for the Mental Health Foundation

Date: Tuesday 1 November – Wednesday 30 November 2022

A team of Clare Hall Members is raising funds for the Mental Health Foundation this autumn, as they complete a 12,000 Steps a Day in November Challenge.

As the dark nights and short days are approaching, this challenge is designed to get us moving and feeling physically and mentally healthy. It can be harder to get outside during the winter months, but exercising outdoors in nature may help to prevent or reduce feelings of anger, tiredness and sadness. We can complete our steps however we like – whether it’s out on a daily walk, on our commute, at the gym or even walking around the house.

The Domestic Bursar, Harry Joseph, has plotted out some walking routes around which we will arrange meet-ups to explore during November, ensuring there is a social dimension too (followed by coffee and cake in the Common Room). Ronnie, Harry’s dog, may accompany us at times 🐶

GSB members are also planning some longer creative routes exploring areas of Cambridge you may not yet have seen.

We know that some communities are at higher risk of mental health problems due to the social, economic, and environmental circumstances they find themselves in. Much of our work challenges these mental health inequalities by helping those at the greatest risk.’

Spotlight on student wellbeing

At Clare Hall there are a number of ways we help support our students’ wellbeing and mental health. The College Nurse, College-based Counselling Service and Student Assistance Programme add to the University’s Student Support services to help students to make the most of their time at Cambridge. Clare Hall students can find details on wellbeing via the Intranet, and on the University’s Student Support pages.
