Clare College Choral Evensong, Easter 2026

All members of Clare Hall are warmly welcome to Clare Choral Evensong, sung by the Clare College Choir on Sunday 3rd May at 6pm in Clare Chapel.
Our Sunday Evensong services during Easter Term are on the theme of ‘Easter Hope’, and for our first Sunday service the Dean will be giving the address, ‘Hope in a garden’, reflecting on the gospel account of Mary Magdalene’s encounter with the risen Christ on the first Easter morning. Plus the Choir will be singing European polychoral works: a triple-choir setting of Psalm 123, Ad te levavi oculos meos, by Giovanni Pierluigi de Palestrina, the ten-part Eastertide Magnificat octavi toni super ‘Aurora lucis rutilat’ by Orlande de Lassus, and the double-choir setting of Psalm 127, Nisi Dominus, from the Vespers of 1610 by Claudio Monteverdi. The service also includes the Latin Nunc Dimittis by Herbert Howells, and is preceded by a vocal recital at 5.25pm, given by Clare third-year Music students Eoin Jenkins and Evie Perfect.
The service will last about an hour, and will be followed by drinks in the Scholars’ Garden (ante-chapel if wet), and then by a roast supper in Hall for those who would like to stay (£7.70, which can be paid on the night).
