Clare College Choral Evensong
Sunday 4 June, 6pm
Building on the success of last term’s visit, all members of the Clare Hall community are once again warmly invited to a special Choral Evensong in Clare Chapel. Please complete the below form by Thursday 5 May to reserve your place.
The Choir will be singing a movement from the All-Night Vigil by Sergei Rachmaninov (the 150th anniversary of whose birth is celebrated this year), as well as canticles by Edmund Rubbra, plus the beautiful piece ‘Open thou mine eyes’ by Clare Honorary Fellow and former Director of Music John Rutter. The service will be guest conducted by former Director of Music Timothy Brown, and we’re also joined by the Rev’d Canon James Blandford-Baker, who will be giving a short sermon on Psalm 119, and its relevance for us today.
The service will last about an hour, and will be followed by drinks in the ante-Chapel.
For those who would like to stay, there will then be supper served in the Buttery, which costs about £5 and can be paid for by contactless card at the Buttery till.
Those wishing to walk over together from Clare Hall should gather outside the Porters’ Lodge at 5.30pm.
There is no formal dress code for the service.
