Clare College Choral Evensong

Date: Thursday 9 November 2023, 6.15pm

All members of Clare Hall are warmly welcome to a special service of Choral Evensong, sung jointly by the choirs of Clare Hall and Clare College, on Thursday 9th November at 6.15pm in Clare Chapel. The service will last about 40 minutes, and will include Hubert Parry’s hymn-like setting of Tennyson’s ‘Crossing the bar’, canticles in D minor by Thomas Walmisley, and John Tavener’s masterpiece ‘Song for Athene’, which was performed at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales. The service also includes Responses by the Renaissance English composer William Byrd, and is framed by organ voluntaries by Colin Mawby and Naji Hakim.

Straight after the service, there will be a special drinks reception for Clare Hall members in the Antechapel.

Those wishing to walk over together from Clare Hall should gather outside the Porters’ Lodge at 5.45pm.
