Clare Hall Brian Pippard Building and Leslie Barnett House by Rachael Grimm,

This is a selection of works from Clare Hall’s Art Collection, with annotations and memorabilia. From its inception, Clare Hall has promoted and developed an interest in cultural as well as academic life.  An Art Committee was formed in the first few years, and the College began to mount curated exhibitions in the public areas.  But instead of taking commissions on the sale of works of art, it has simply requested that one painting from each exhibition should be gifted to the college. In this way, the Clare Hall Art Collection began.

Sometimes the collection benefits from gifts, not just from artists but also generous donors. All these works of art create something that is also a loan collection for college residents and staff. Many pictures enhance the walls of public rooms or are resting in store. This exhibition shows work that comes from every decade of Clare Hall’s existence. It demonstrates openness to the new, as well as unexpected diversity and depth; a wide variety of ideas, displayed in this college over sixty years.
