Upcoming events – Lent:
Film Screening – Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994, 104 minutes, dir. Stephan Elliot) Thursday, 29 January at 7:30pm – ALB Bar – Come join us for our first film screening of Lent Term! This 1994 Australian road comedy starring Terrence Stamp, Guy Pearce, and Hugo Weaving premiered at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival in its Un Certain Regard section. Should be a really fun time. – As per our normal routine, we’ve reserved a table in the dining room from 6pm for members of the SIG to gather before the screening.
Clare Hall Film Library Launch Event Thursday, 29 January at 7:00pm – Ashby Library – We’ve started a film library here at Clare Hall! Thanks to some generous donations, we now have a growing collection of around 60 film books accessible in the front room of the Ashby Library. In between dinner and the screening, we’ll walk over and check it out (quietly).
Movie Magic Special Preview Screening Thursday, 12 February at 7:30pm – The Phoenix Cinema, London – Come join us as we travel to London to watch the first preview screening of Movie Magic (2025). Recently accepted by the Chicago Irish Film Festival, this independent comedy about cinema ushers was edited by Clare Hall student Carter Rogers and directed by Robinson graduates Michael Magarren and Alex Kennedy. You can watch the trailer here and get (free!) tickets here.
Film Screening – The Brood (1979, 92 minutes, dir. David Cronenberg) Thursday, 19 February at 7:30pm – ALB Bar – Lent Term’s second screening is David Cronenberg’s The Brood! This sci-fi horror is featured in the Criterion Collection and has inspired decades of horror filmmakers. It is gross and scary, but also very good. Be prepared for that! Works on its face, and also as a metaphor – but for what? It’s up to you to decide. – As per our normal routine, we’ve reserved a table in the dining room from 6pm for members of the SIG to gather before the screening.
Clare Hall Film Library – Call for Donation:
The SIG is currently building a physical film library in the Clare Hall Ashby Library, so that they can leave a lasting material legacy for future cohorts to explore, enjoy, and expand.
All Clare Hall students, fellows, staff, and life members are warmly invited to contribute. Any physical film-related materials, including books (in any language), zines, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and similar items are welcome.
If you would like to donate, please get in touch with Latina (tl655@cam.ac.uk) and/or Carter (chr45@cam.ac.uk) for further details and information on the donation process.
