Sakuntala Trio

Date: Saturday 29 March 2025, 7.30pm
Location: Clare Hall Dining Hall, University of Cambridge
Booking: via Eventbrite

We are delighted to welcome the Sakuntala Trio, a London based string trio, to Clare Hall.

The string trio is a comparatively rare genre in the realm of chamber music, much less tackled than piano trios and string quartets. Nevertheless, the genre boasts many important works. The Schubert String Trio is more than a curiosity. This work has only recently been completed By Brian Newbould, and the Sakuntala Trio has made it their speciality, having recorded the piece in world-premiere. The Trio by Jean Cras, a French sailor-composer of phenomenal talent, is one of his best works, and a cornerstone of the repertoire from string trio. Like much of his music, it bears testimony of his travels, especially in the Arabic sounding second movement. The works by Purcell and Enescu are perfect complements to the programme.
