Clare Hall Boat Club holds fundraiser for women’s Blades

27 November 2023 College life

A 24-hour ergathon will be held in the Common Room at Clare Hall from 11am on Saturday 2 December until 11am on Sunday 3 December 2023 to raise £5,000 for new blades for the Women’s crews.

The 2023/2024 rowing season has already been marked by significant achievements for the Clare Hall Boat Club: from the first time having two women’s boats training regularly and competing, to the novice Women’s crew reaching the finals of Queens’ Ergs and quarterfinals of Clare Novices’ Regatta. The Women’s crews need your support to raise funds for a new set of blades, which will greatly enhance their performance on the water.

Every gift will be matched pound for pound up to the value of £2500, thanks to Thomson Nguyen (CHBC Men’s Captain 2010), thus maximising the impact of each gift we receive.

How to donate

Life stream and fundraiser

There will be coffee and cakes on the morning of 2 December in the Common Room, and a live stream so you can check in on our progress. We would love to see some familiar faces in College to kick off the start of the ergathon (Dr Anthony Harris, Research Fellow of Clare Hall, will be our first rower on the erg!). The live stream will be available to watch on Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/clare_hall_boat_club) as well as the CHBC Instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/clarehall.boatclub/).

We are now asking for your support to help CHBC go from strength to strength. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated and will make a big difference to our women’s crews! We are encouraging gifts in support of this fundraiser both leading up to and during the ergathon, hence you can give immediately should you wish to do so.

Adopt a blade

For those who can support at a higher level, we have our adopt-a-blade scheme: your name will be included on one of the blades which will be rowed (to victory, we hope!) in the Lent and May bumps. This level of support is £500 and will guarantee that your name (or the name of a loved one) appears on a Clare Hall blade for a minimum of 3 years.

If you wish to adopt a blade, please make a minimum donation of £500 via the following page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/chbc-ergathon

Supporters can also give via Clare Hall’s online donation form by clicking on the following link (please select “Clare Hall Boat Club” and add “24-hour ergathon” in the comment box): https://www.clarehall.cam.ac.uk/online-donation-form/

In-person gifts

Those who wish to come along to encourage our rowers during the ergathon are most welcome to do so. It will be possible to make a donation in person at the event, either in cash or by card.

Should you wish to make a regular gift to CHBC, please do so through the following regular giving page on the College website (ensure to select “Clare Hall Boat Club”): https://secure.edirectdebit.co.uk/Clare-Hall/Donate

Gifts from America

Those who wish to give tax-efficiently from America can do so through Cambridge in America by clicking on the following link (please ensure to state under “College or University initiative” that it is for the Clare Hall Boat Club’s 24-hour ergathon): https://www.cantab.org/supporting-cambridge/ways-to-give

As we strive to attain “blades” for the first time since 2016, your support is crucial. Investing in new rowing blades for the women’s side will not only contribute to our success, but also unlock our team’s immense potential, propelling us to even greater heights on the water.
