Moniruz Zaman, a Clare Hall student and Cambridge Trust scholar, recently met HRH The Prince of Wales at a Cambridge Trust event.

Moniruz is an LLM (Master of Law) student and is recipient of The HRH Prince of Wales Commonwealth Scholarship, which was launched in spring 2019 to support postgraduate students from Commonwealth nations studying at the University of Cambridge in fields which focus on practical themes affecting the future of those nations.

Moniruz commented:
‘As the first-ever Bangladeshi to receive the HRH Prince of Wales Commonwealth Scholarship at the University of Cambridge, I was privileged to have the opportunity to meet HRH The Prince of Wales. After hearing about my research in the field of Intellectual Property Law and my interest in academia, he was certain that I can contribute to the true cause of the Cambridge Trust Scholarship.’

Welcomed to King’s College by Provost Professor Michael Proctor, Chair of the Cambridge Trust’s board, and Helen Pennant, the Trust’s Director and Vice-President of Clare Hall, The Prince met with seven of the current HRH Prince of Wales Commonwealth Scholars-in-residence undertaking PhD and Master’s degrees at the University of Cambridge, hearing about their studies and chatting to them about their wide-ranging research projects.

To coincide with Commonwealth Day earlier this year, The Prince launched the Climate Action Scholarships for students from small island nations. Working with His Royal Highness, the initiative was developed by Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, Professor Stephen Toope (a Professorial Fellow of Clare Hall), to recognise the disproportionate effects of climate change on Small Island Developing States.
