Clare Hall hosts the Cambridge-Fudan Meeting on Neurology and Old Age Psychiatry
On Wednesday 15 October 2025, Clare Hall was delighted to host the Cambridge–Fudan Meeting on Neurology and Old Age Psychiatry, a landmark event that brought together leading neuroscientists and psychiatrists from the University of Cambridge and Fudan University, Shanghai.

The meeting opened with a welcome address from Professor Alan Short, President of Clare Hall, setting the tone for a day of lively scientific exchange. The morning programme featured a series of talks exploring advances in neurology and psychiatry, from the latest developments in precision medicine for Alzheimer’s disease to deep brain stimulation, cognitive neuroscience, and the links between vascular ageing and brain health.
Distinguished speakers included Dr Peter Stern, Professor Jintai Yu, Professor Shouyan Wang, Professor Jianfeng Feng, Professor Roger Barker, Professor John O’Brien, Professor James Rowe, and Dr Nicholas Evans. The meeting was organised and generously supported by Professor Barbara Sahakian, Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Cambridge and Fellow of Clare Hall, with the assistance of Dr Christelle Langley, Affiliated Postdoctoral Member of Clare Hall and Coordinator for the Cambridge–Fudan Initiative in the Department of Psychiatry.

The morning’s discussions culminated in a drinks reception and the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Clare Hall and Fudan University in the President’s Lodge. The MoU establishes a new Visiting Fellowships agreement, further strengthening the academic partnership and exchange between the two institutions. The celebrations concluded with a buffet lunch in the Richard Eden Suite, where participants had the opportunity to network and discuss future research collaborations.

This meeting formed part of a week-long visit that also included engagements at Downing College and the University’s Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology. It continues a longstanding collaboration between Clare Hall and Fudan University: the first Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions was signed in December 2019 by Professor David Ibbetson, previous President of Clare Hall, following the agreement between the University of Cambridge and Fudan University signed in September 2019.
