Clare Hall opens exhibition ‘Everyday Wonder to Revelation’

13 October 2025 College life

On 9 October, Clare Hall warmly welcomed friends, supporters, and admirers of the late artist Alan Caine to the opening of the exhibition Everyday Wonder to Revelation. Held at the College, the event offered guests a chance to view Caine’s paintings, learn about his life and artistic vision, and celebrate his contribution to art in a convivial gathering with drinks and conversation.

Alan Caine (1936–2022) was a dedicated art educator and creator whose work combined intimate still life motifs with expansive landscapes. He taught art in the Adult Education Department at Leicester University and played a pivotal role in the conception and design of Leicester’s Attenborough Arts Centre, acting as its Associate Director and teaching there well into his later years.

Caine’s paintings often explore unity and depth in humble subjects – rugs, mopheads, bundles of cloth – and luminous landscapes, reflecting a philosophy of oneness and coherence. Read more about Alan Caine and his work here.

The exhibition will run from 10 October through 20 November 2025, open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
