Congratulations to Needham Research Fellow Dr Jingyi Jenny Zhao, who has been named a 2024-25 Berggruen Fellow at the Berggruen Institute China Center in Peking University. The Berggruen China Center is a hub for East-West research and dialogue dedicated to the cross-cultural and interdisciplinary study of the transformations affecting humanity.

Since its founding in 2018, the Berggruen Fellowship programme at PKU has attracted a number of leading scholars in China and beyond. The programme is very well suited to my academic background and interests in that it promotes cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary approaches to philosophy, and seeks to address contemporary issues through studying the past. I will still be based in Cambridge, but shall participate in some of the Center’s events and contribute to the Center’s programmes. I’m looking forward to using this opportunity to introduce my research to a wider audience.
