Life Member David Chernushenko’s novel features Clare Hall
Life Member David Chernushenko, who completed an MPhil in International Relations from 1987 to 1988, has published a novel that prominently features Clare Hall. David lived on main site in the Leslie Barnett House and has fond memories of his time in College. His novel, Burning Souls, is a story of friendship and courage in a time of political and ecological breakdown, where the main characters meet while studying at Cambridge, two of them being students at Clare Hall.
David will be hosting a reading of the book at Clare Hall in the Meeting Room on Friday, 11th October. David will also be speaking on the role of fiction in promoting social change, along with the benefits of cycling in reducing emissions (having recently completed a cycling adventure from Vienna to London).
About the book
Since chance brought them together at Cambridge, Simone Cohen, Sagan Cleveland, Jenny Fung and Jiro Ebitsubo have become painfully aware of the predatory practices driving climate breakdown and the fraying of global cooperation. As they confront a world where change attracts resistance and backlash, they are called on to decide what matters most and test the limits of their friendship. The stakes are high, and civilized society hangs in the balance. Burning Souls offers plenty to lift the reader, even as things go horribly wrong.
