Our warmest congratulations to PhD student Ange La Furcia, who has been awarded the Honorable Mention in the Society for the Study of Social Problems’s Gender Division’s Student Paper Competition Award. The paper is a result of Ange’s PhD dissertation on Beauty, politicization, and racism in the Colombian Insular Caribbean, and is under review on an issue about non-hegemonic beauties of the Feminist Theory Journal, edited by Dr. Julieta Vartabedian and Prof. Mónica Moreno Figueroa.

I thank Miss Nancy Land Organization for Afro-Caribbean Women and Young Islanders for their community work in the Colombian Insular Caribbean. I dedicate the prize to all transgender women collaborating with me during this long ethnographic beauty pageant journey!
