26 November 2025 Life Members

We are pleased to share the news that Professor Yoshiyuki Kato, Life Member and former Visiting Fellow, has recently published a new book Evangelicals: The Eschatological Fracturing of American Society (written in Japanese), which has received wide critical and public acclaim.

The book examines the role of American Evangelicals in shaping political life throughout the twentieth century and has resonated strongly with readers. It has sold more than 50,000 copies within its first two months, and national newspapers along with many magazines have published highly positive reviews.

Reflecting on the response, Professor Kato shared: “I am very thankful to Clare Hall since much of the research that went into the writing of the book was done during my stay in the College. I was also fortunate to begin a special interest group, ‘History and Politics,’ with Andreas Mørkved Hellenes and Johan Gardebo in the autumn of 2023. The group gave me an opportunity to speak about the research that went into the writing of the book.”

We extend our congratulations to Professor Kato on this achievement, and we are proud to see work developed at Clare Hall receive such strong recognition in Japan.
