University of Urbino honours Professor Niccolò Guicciardini with Commandino Medal
On 16 September 2025, Clare Hall Life Member Professor Niccolò Guicciardini was awarded the Commandino Medal by the University of Urbino in recognition of his outstanding research in the history of science.
The Commandino Medal is a prestigious honour that has previously been awarded to leading international scholars, including Reviel Netz (Stanford University), William R. Shea (Università di Padova), Roger Penrose (University of Oxford), Jürgen Renn (Max Planck Institute for the History of Science), Victor Pambuccian (Arizona State University, USA), and Karine Chemla (SPHERE, CNR – Université Paris Cité).
Following the award ceremony, Professor Guicciardini delivered a keynote address titled “Newton’s Mathematical Networks,” offering new insights into the intellectual and scholarly exchanges that shaped Isaac Newton’s work and legacy.
