Update: Clare Hall Boat Club raises over £7000 for women’s blades!
Last weekend, a 24-hour ergathon was held in the Common Room at Clare Hall from 11am on Saturday 2 December until 11am on Sunday 3 December 2023. 38 Boat Club members participated and collectively erged 310km, the distance from Cambridge to Amsterdam! While the Boat Club aimed to raise £5000 to purchase new blades for the women’s crews, they far surpassed that, raising a grand total of over £7000.
On top of being able to purchase high-spec Concept-2 blades for our women’s crews, the additional funds raised through this ergathon campaign will be put towards purchasing a new GPS-enabled cox box, and crew development in the run-up to bumps 2024 (including coaching fees and access to an indoor rowing tank in Cambridge).
A huge thanks to everyone who donated, watched the ergathon in person, and followed the live stream. Particular thanks go to Thomson Nguyen (CHBC Men’s Captain 2010) who pledged to match donations up to £2,500–propelling them over the line for their fundraising goal. Many thanks also to the several donors who have ‘adopted’ blades in their name or the name of a loved one.
The generous support will benefit the women’s crews for years to come, and the Boat Club more generally. We can’t wait to have you follow the Boat Club’s 2024 Bumps campaign, and the many exciting things to come.
