Clare Hall hosts Literature Cambridge’s Virginia Woolf Summer Course

13 October 2026 College life

We were pleased to welcome Literature Cambridge to Clare Hall for their 2026 Summer Course on Virginia Woolf and the Natural World.

The summer course attracted 27 participants from 13 different countries, 3-7 August 2026. They enjoyed an intensive week of lectures, tutorials, and readings on five of Woolf’s greatest novels, as well as guided tours of King’s College gardens and buildings, the Botanic Garden, the Museum of Cambridge, and more, all with talks by experts on Woolf and her world. The books studied included Jacob’s Room (1922), To the Lighthouse (1927), The Waves (1931), The Years (1937), and Between the Acts (1941), as well as Woolf’s essays, diaries, and much else.

Literature Cambridge is a small independent body founded and directed by Emeritus Fellow Dr Trudi Tate. The next summer course is planned to take place at Clare Hall in September 2027, on the theme of Women Writers of the 1920s. Provisional list of authors includes Elizabeth Bowen, Ivy Compton-Burnett, Winifred Holtby, Rosamond Lehmann, and Sylvia Townsend Warner.  Details will be published soon. https://www.literaturecambridge.co.uk/
