Antti Ahlava is Full Professor of Emergent Design Methodologies and a practicing architect. He is a partner in pioneering helsinkizürich architecture office, which is a located in Finland and Switzerland.
Antti’s teaching and research group at Aalto University (Helsinki), Group X, studies the interaction between architecture and other creative fields. The group has collaborated with fashion, interior and service designers as well as artists. These cross-disciplinary projects include School as a Service, a social innovation in operation with 1,800 elementary and secondary school pupils, Creative Europe project Human Cities, and many initiatives for the campus development of Aalto University. Antti has led the university’s campus strategy and design for the past seven years.
Antti’s design work includes the renewals of Helsinki City Hall Quarters and Helsinki Art Museum HAM, urban regeneration and industrial conversion projects and private housing. He has been successful in many international architecture competitions, and was recently given Human City Design Award by Seoul Metropolitan government and Seoul Design Week.
Antti has been a Visiting Professor or Fellow in Aarhus Architecture School, the Royal Art Academy in Copenhagen, TU Wien, Harvard GSD and Donghua University, Shanghai.
As a Visiting Fellow of Clare Hall, Antti looks forward to researching local campus architecture, working on his project of adaptive building reuse, learning from people in other disciplines and starting new collaborations.
