Annemieke ter Telgte, PhD

Annemieke ter Telgte, PhD, is senior postdoc at VASCage GmbH in Innsbruck, Austria. She received her PhD from the Department of Neurology at Radboudumc, Radboud University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Her research focuses on cerebral small vessel disease, particularly small acute brain infarcts (termed incidental DWI-positive lesions) and cerebral microinfarcts. During her PhD, she established the RUN DMC – InTENse study, a high-frequent serial MRI study on small acute brain infarcts in patients with cerebral small vessel disease. Subsequently, as a visiting researcher at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, she studied small acute brain infarcts microscopically. Her current work focuses on determining the risk factors and the clinical significance of small acute brain infarcts, studied in UK Biobank as well as through a pooled analysis of individual participant data. As Visiting Researcher at the University of Cambridge, she will conduct a secondary analysis of the PRESERVE trial to determine whether intensive blood pressure treatment is associated with a reduction in the combined outcome of incident brain infarcts on MRI and recurrent stroke, to explore the potential of this combined outcome as a surrogate endpoint for future clinical trials. Outside of her research, Annemieke loves swing dancing, being in nature, and spending time with friends and family.
