Betty Behrens Seminar proceedings published in Storia della Storiografia
Clare Hall is pleased to share the publication of the proceedings of a special session of the Betty Behrens Seminar on Classics of Historiography, dedicated to “Arnaldo Momigliano’s Historiography between Italy and England”.
Edited by Professor Davide Cadeddu, the collection appears in the internationally renowned journal Storia della Storiografia, with articles by Oswyn Murray (Balliol College, Oxford) and Carlo Ginzburg (University of California, Los Angeles).
Held at Clare Hall on 16 May 2025, the special session brought historians together to explore Momigliano’s work and the intellectual connections he helped build between Italy and England. The event marked the seminar’s third year, celebrating a series that had already welcomed almost forty historians from the United Kingdom and the United States.

Momigliano’s story has a particular connection to Cambridge. After escaping Fascist Italy, he gave lectures here in 1940 on “Peace and Liberty in the Ancient World”, before going on to establish his career at University College London and the University of Chicago.
The publication brings the scholarship shared at Clare Hall to a wider readership, offering an opportunity to revisit Momigliano’s contribution to the study and writing of history.
We are delighted to see the work of the Betty Behrens Seminar reach readers beyond the College.
