Professor Fanjun Meng

Fanjun Meng is Professor of Literature at Jilin University and presides Research Center for Cognitive Aesthetics and Aesthetic Education.

Professor Fanjun Meng is now focusing on cognitive neuroaesthetics, an emerging field that robustly advances contemporary aesthetics by elucidating its underlying psychological and neural processes. He has published theoretical and experimental work, which synthesize the ideas of scholars from China and other countries and raise up the framework of cognitive neuroaesthetics. Furthermore, he has fostered international dialogue by organizing conferences, panels, and academic columns dedicated to this field. Now, he aims to pioneer a new paradigm in literary criticism —neurocriticism— regarding the contribution of I. A. Richards, the framework of cognitive neuroaesthetics, as well as other recourse intellectual history.

Professor Fanjun Meng holds a PhD in Literature and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Philosophy, during which he also underwent systematic training in psychology and earned a National Psychological Counselor Certificate. His interdisciplinary research integrates theoretical, experimental, and literary textual analysis. Under the umbrella of cognitive neuroaesthetics, he has published two monographs and two translations monographs, another is upcoming. He is currently serving as the chief editor of the Cognitive Neuroaesthetics and Aesthetic Education series.
