Steven Lu

Founder of an asset management firm: HL Oriental and a DeepTech Venture: SDA Cambridge. Cambridge EMBA, with 15 years of investment experience in Hong Kong.

Born in Hunan China, Steven earned B.Eng and B.Sc from Xi’an Jiaotong University. He came to Hong Kong to study at HKUST as an exchange student in 2004, then completed an M.Phil in operations research at HKU. After 15 years as an investment specialist in Hong Kong, Steven completed an executive MBA at Cambridge Judge Business School and founded his investment management firm with 20 million USD AUM.

Steven has spent more than 15 years in the financial industry, starting as an equity analyst at Chinese Investment Bank Haitong Securities. He later advanced the path as director of asset management at CCB International and managing director at GBA Development Fund (A PE firm in Hong Kong with an AUM of 2 Billion USD) before founding his ventures in 2023. In parallel, he pursued academic interests in mathematics and Artificial Intelligence even after his dropout from HKU as a PhD candidate (he was admitted as a PhD candidate by HKU but graduated two years later as an M.Phil to pursue a career in finance).

At Clare Hall, Steven was ever an active graduate student who cycled from London to Cambridge to raise money for diversity and inclusion initiatives at Clare Hall and surpassed the goal of raising £10,000. After graduation, Steven was also an active life member who took initiatives from raising money to inviting speakers for Clare Hall.
